Dödvikt

Dödvikt, kort DWT (efter engelskans deadweight tonnage), är ett mått som anger ett fartygs maximala lastförmåga – vikten av last, bränsle, förråd, besättning och passagerare – när det lastats ned till lägsta tillåtna fribord, vilket markeras av plimsollmärket.[1]

Enheten är metriska ton (1 000 kilogram).[1]

Så sent som 1985 föreskrev amerikansk standard att vikten DWT angavs i long ton vilket motsvarar 1 016 kg,[2] men anges numera i metriska ton.[1]
