Ovaj bifunkcionalani protein hldE deluje kao D-glicero-beta-D-mano-heptoza-7-fosfatna kinaza i D-glicero-beta-D-mano-heptoza 1-fosfat adenililtransferaza (cf. EC 2.7.7.70).
