Paša (Osmanská ríša)

Paša (turecky pasa) bol v Osmanskej ríši titul pre vysokých úradníkov a vojenských hodnostárov. Výraz pochádza z perzského padišáhom, teda vládca. Územie spravované pašom sa nazýva pašalik.

V hierarchii osmanskej nomenklatúry sa nachádzal nad titulom bej a pod titulom vezír. Tento titul stál za menom príslušného činiteľa. Pašovia nosili ako odznak svojej dôstojnosti (hodnosti) dva až tri konské chvosty (bunčuky; rovnako ako agovia - velitelia janičiarov). Titul paša bol v Turecku zrušený roku 1934 (v Egypte v 1953).

Významný bol okrem iného aj titul kapudan paša (z latinského capitanus, veliteľ námorníctva, kapitán), zodpovedajúci titulu veľkoadmirála, ktorý bol najvyššia hodnosť námorníctva Osmanskej ríše. Kapudan paša, ktorý bol zároveň členom tzv. divánom, teda sultánove rady, bol aj guvernérom niekoľkých provincií ríše (ostrovy v Egejskom mori, čiastočne Alžírsko a Cyprus). Tento titul bol roku 1876 zmenený na ministra námorníctva.

K najznámejším nositeľom titulu paša patrí napr Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, titul kapudan paša mal korzár Chajruddín Barbarossa.
