Zhelyu Mitev Zhelev (Bulgarian: Желю Митев Желев; 3 March 1935 – 30 January 2015) was a Bulgarian politician, philosopher, writer, and dissident. He served as the second President of Bulgaria from 1 August 1990 to 22 January 1997. He was the first non-communist to hold office.
Zhelev was born in Smyadovo. He was married to Maria Zheleva and had two children.
Zhelev died on 30 January 2015 in Sofia, aged 79.[1]
