Zachery Stortini (born September 11, 1985) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger. He currently works as an assistant coach with the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League (AHL). He played parts of 6 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played for the Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators.
Career
Before playing in the NHL, Stortini played parts of three seasons with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He had a successful time with the Wolves, playing 247 regular season games with them and becoming their long-serving captain.[1]
He was drafted 94th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2003 NHL entry draft. On September 15, 2004, Stortini signed a three-year, entry-level contract to join the Oilers.[2] On January 20, 2007, Stortini made his NHL debut in a 4–0 loss against the Calgary Flames.[3] He was sent down to play for the Oiler's AHL-affiliate Hamilton Bulldogs where he won the Calder Cup with them.[4] He was later called back up. On February 6, Stortini scored his first NHL career goal against Roberto Luongo in a 5–2 loss against the Vancouver Canucks.[5] Oh July 15, 2008, Stortini signed a three-year contract to stay with the Oilers.[6]
On July 5, 2011, Stortini signed a one-year, two-way contract to join the Nashville Predators.[7] He only played 1 game with the team before being sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Milwaukee Admirals.
On July 7, 2013, Stortini signed to a one-year, two-way contract to join the Anaheim Ducks but never played for them.[8] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Norfolk Admirals. He played 73 games with the Admirals, scoring 4 goals and recording 5 assists.
On July 2, 2014, Stortini signed a one-year, two-way contract to join the Philadelphia Flyers but once again never played for them.[9] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
On July 1, 2015, Stortini signed a two-year, two-way contract to join the Ottawa Senators.[10] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Binghamton Senators and served as their captain.[11]
On January 24, 2017, the Senators traded Stortini along with Buddy Robinson and a 2017 seventh-round draft pick in exchange for Tommy Wingels.[12]
On July 5, 2017, Stortini decided to stay in the AHL and signed a one-year contract to join the Charlotte Checkers.[13] He was able to win his second Calder Cup with the team.[14]
On September 20, 2017, Cole signed a one-day contract to return to the Carolina Hurricanes and announced that he was retiring from playing professional ice hockey.[15] He decided to retire from playing professional ice hockey in 2019.
On August 17, 2022, Stortini was hired to become an assistant coach for the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL.[16]
