Yannick Tremblay (born November 15, 1975) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He played parts of 15 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Atlanta Thrashers, and Vancouver Canucks. Outside of the NHL, Tremblay also played for the Adler Mannheim and Straubing Tigers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), HC Lugano of the National League A (NLA), and the Graz 99ers of the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga (EBEL).
Career
Before playing in the NHL, Tremblay played parts of one season with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens and two seasons with the Beauport Harfangs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He also played 25 games with the St. Thomas Tommies of Atlantic University Sport (AUS).
He was drafted 145th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1995 NHL entry draft. He was immediately sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate St. John's Maple Leafs. On March 27, 1997, Toronto called him up and Tremblay made his NHL debut in a 1–1 overtime tie against the Phoenix Coyotes.[1] On December 6, Tremblay recorded his first NHL point, assisting on a Mike Johnson goal in a 7–2 win against the Los Angeles Kings.[2] On January 22, 1998, Tremblay scored his first NHL goal against Jeff Hackett in a 3–0 win against the Chicago Blackhawks.[3]
On June 25, 1999, the Maple Leafs left Tremblay unprotected and the Atlanta Thrashers selected him in the expansion draft.[4] He played parts of five seasons with the Thrashers. During his tenure with them, Tremblay was the Thrashers' all-time leader in points by a defenceman with 107. It stayed until January 14, 2010 when the record was broken by Tobias Enström.[5] When the NHL entered lockout, Tremblay decided to sign a contract to play for the Adler Mannheim of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). He scored 1 goal and recorded 4 assists in 14 regular season games with the team. He returned to the NHL after the lockout ended.
On July 28, 2006, Tremblay signed a one-year contract to join the Vancouver Canucks.[6] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Manitoba Moose. He scored 1 goal and recorded 2 assists in 12 games for the Canucks.
On July 18, 2007, Tremblay left North America and signed a contract to join HC Lugano of the National League A (NLA).[7] He scored 8 goals and recorded 21 assists for 29 points in 46 games for the Lugano. He then returned to the DEL and played one season with the Straubing Tigers before spending a season with the Graz 99ers of the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga (EBEL).
Tremblay retired from playing professional ice hockey in 2011.
