Wikipedia talk:Citing sources

Non-English

How about adding, "If a source is written in a language that is not English, please include the language name in the citation." Racepacket (talk) 09:07, 5 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Circular sources

Hello,
I'm worried that this rule does not mention one important problem with sources. Sometimes, other people (and books and websites) copy from wikipedia. This means that the source cannot be trusted. On en.wikipedia I have even seen cases where an editor simply made up stuff, then an external website copied it from en.wikipedia, so then there was a source which supported the made-up stuff! I think simple wikipedia should have a rule against using sources which have copied from a wiki. Does this seem reasonable? Bobrayner (talk) 12:01, 19 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good. Please feel free to add it. Osiris (talk) 12:21, 19 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

templates available when editing?

In the complex English wikipedia, there's another menu when editing called Cite, which has templates that show the fields and you fill in what you have available. That's a pretty neat feature, any plans on bringing that to Simple English? Nerfer (talk) 20:59, 8 February 2013‎

Good question.--Peterdownunder (talk) 08:08, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi! We have it installed as a gadget, but you need to enable it. Just go to the "Gadgets" tab on your preferences page and make sure that the item beginning with "refTools" is checked. Osiris (talk) 08:14, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Great cartoon, but no, you can't add it. You could put a link to the image however.--Peterdownunder (talk) 06:31, 1 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
En Wiki uses this comic.

Enwiki has a different image policy to us - we only use images from Wikimedia Commons.--Peterdownunder (talk) 12:57, 1 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
