The first post office in Wheaton was founded in 1870. It was called Leghorn until 1883.[4] The post office remained in operation until it was closed in 1992.[5]
As of the 2020 census, there were 98 people, 34 households, and 30 families living in Wheaton. Of the households, 85.3% owned their home and 14.7% rented their home.
The median age was 36.5 years. Of the people, 87.8% were White and 12.2% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.0% of the people.[3][6]

As of the 2010 census, there were 95 people, 34 households, and 24 families living in the city.[7]
