The Weather Prediction Center, located in College Park, Maryland,[1] is one of the many service centers run by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction. Their main job is to provide forecasts to the public.[2]
History
The Weather Prediction Center was made on March 5, 1942, by the National Weather Service. The WPC was previously named the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center but was changed on March 5, 2013 to Weather Prediction Center, so it was easier to say.[3]
Forecasts

The Weather Prediction Center forecasts many things and creates long-term and short-term forecasts. Some things forecasted for include heavy precipitation (rain), heavy, and ice. [4] Forecasts are issued daily by WPC meteorologist. Forecasts include a map with a key identifying areas of risk for weather.
