Wayland (protocol)

Wayland is a communication protocol that manages and controls visual elements which are part of a graphical user interface.[1] It tries to replace the X Window System with a more secure and simple window system for Linux and other systems.[2][3][4][5]
Wayland is made in C and its code uses the MIT license, an open-source permissive software license.
Display servers that use Wayland are called Wayland compositors because they also do the job of a compositing window manager. The Wayland project has an example Wayland compositor named Weston.
