Wadjda
Wadjda (Arabic: وجدة, romanized: Wajda, pronounced [wad͡ʒ.da]) is a 2012 Saudi Arabian comedy-drama movie directed by first time director Haifaa al-Mansour and starring Reem Abdullah, Waad Mohammed, Ahd Kamel, Sultan Al Assaf.
Plot
In the 2000s, Wadjda, a 10-year-old girl living in Riyadh, wants to buy a green bicycle so she can race her friend Abdullah. Her mother refuses to buy it, so Wadjda earns money by selling mixtapes, bracelets, and other things. Her actions often get her into trouble at school.
Wadjda's mother is also having problems. Her husband is considering taking a second wife because she cannot have more children. At school, Wadjda enters a Quran recitation competition with a cash prize. She wins, but the headmistress gives the prize money to Palestine instead of letting Wadjda use it to buy the bicycle.
Abdullah offers Wadjda his bicycle, but she refuses. Soon after, Wadjda learns that her father has married another woman. Her mother decides to spend her savings on Wadjda's bicycle instead of buying a dress for the wedding.
The next day, Wadjda rides her new bicycle and races Abdullah. She wins the race.
