He started playing football for Grazer AK and went on to the youth academy of FC Red Bull Salzburg. He played his first game for the first team on 3 November 2012 against Admira Wacker Mödling. At 16 years and 224 days old he was the youngest player ever in the history of the Austrian Bundesliga. He came on in the 87th minute for Valon Berisha and was booked in the 88th minute.[3]
He is also allowed to play for FC Liefering, the farm team of Red Bull Salzburg. This team is in the Heute für Morgen Erste Liga, the second league in Austrian football.
Then he went from Red Bull Salzburg to Hertha BSC. He scored his first goal for Hertha BSC in a 2–0 away win against Bayer Leverkusen on 10 February 2018.[4] 2019 Lazaro joined Inter Milan.[5] The next years he played on loan for Newcastle United and Borussia Mönchengladbach. 2021 he went on loan to Benfica.
International career
Lazaro played for the Austria Under-16 and Under-17 youth national teams. With the U-17's he played in the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Lazaro made his debut for the Austria national team on 30 May 2014 in a 1–1 against Iceland in Innsbruck.[6]
