Glossary of Shinto

Take Shrine (多家神社) is a Sōja shrine in Fuchu, Aki District, Hiroshima.[1][2][3]

The shrione says it was founded by Emperor Jimmu. In the Kojiki he stayed in Takemikazuchi [en] Palace and in the Nihon Shoki he stayed at Enomiya. He stayed for seven years during his eastern expedition [en]. [1][2][3]

According to the Engishiki it is a Myojin Taisha.[4]

Because it is a Sōja shrine, it honors all the kami (gods) of the shrines in Aki Province. It is built on the site of Hiroshima Castle [en].[3]

This shrine is one of the "Three Great Shrines of Aki Province", together with Itsukushima Shrine and Hayatani Shrine.[5]

Over time, the shrine became less important. Its original place was forgotten during the Edo period.[3]

The treasure house of the shrine is one of the few old buildings left from Hiroshima Castle [en].[3] It survived a fire in 1915,[6] and the Atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945.[7]
