Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is an action platform video game. It was published by JVC Musical Industries and was developed by Lucasfilm Games and Sculptured Software. NMS Software did developing for the later Game Boy release.[1]

The game was released on March 12, 1992 in Japan, March 1992 in North America and 1992 in Europe for the Famicom/Nintendo Entertainment System. It would later be released as a port in January 1993 in North America and re-released in 1996 in North America for the Game Boy.[2][3]

In the game, the player controls Luke Skywalker and they have to try and rescue their friends by defeating Darth Vader on Cloud City.

A game of the same name was released for the Atari 2600 in 1982. The game was succeeded by Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back which was released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993.

Reception

The game recieved positive reviews by game critics. Critics said that they liked the game was fun and stayed true to the source material. However, critics also said that they didn't like that the game was repetitive and that the combat was not good.[4]
