SirStanley MatthewsCBE (born 1 February 1915 – 23 February 2000) was an Englishfootballer. He was born in Stoke-on-Trent. Matthews played football for Stoke City and Blackpool. He was knighted in 1965 and died in 2000. He was the first person to be knighted for services to football.[4]
