Lee was born in the USA.[4] She is a fourth generation Chinese American.[4] She started writing when she was very young.[1] She came up with stories in her head around the ages of six to eight.[1] She wrote stories about the ideas.[1] When she was 13 or 14, she wrote a book.[1] It was based on fairy tales.[1]
