St. Francis is a city in Cheyenne County, Kansas, United States.[4] It is also the county seat of Cheyenne County. In 2020, 1,263 people lived there.[3]

History

St. Francis was created in 1887.[5][6] The city may have been named for the wife of its founder.[7]

Geography

St. Francis is at 39°46′17″N 101°48′5″W / 39.77139°N 101.80139°W / 39.77139; -101.80139 (39.771479, -101.801428).[8] The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.86 square miles (2.23 km2). All of it is land.[2]

Weather

St. Francis has a semi-arid climate (Köppen BSk). It has cold, dry winters and hot, humid summers.

2020 census

The 2020 census says that there were 1,263 people, 588 households, and 325 families living in St. Francis. Of the households, 74.7% owned their home and 25.3% rented their home.

The median age was 47.0 years. Of the people, 85.3% were White, 0.7% were Asian, 0.5% were Native American, 0.5% were Black, 4.7% were from some other race, and 8.4% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.8% of the people.[3][11]

2010 census

The 2010 census says that there were 1,329 people, 650 households, and 357 families living in St. Francis.[12]
