Sonic X (Japanese: ソニックX, Hepburn: Sonikku Ekkusu), otherwise known as Sonic Adventure (Japanese: ソニックアドベンチャー, Hepburn: Sonikku Adobenchā) or simply Sonic (Japanese: ソニック, Hepburn: Sonikku), is a shōnen anime from Japan. It is based on Sega's Sonic the Hedgehogvideo gamefranchise. The series is made by TMS Entertainment, in co-production with Sega, and Sonic Team. It was directed by Hajime Kamegaki. Sonic X started with 52 episodes. It was broadcast on TV Tokyo from April 2003 to March 2004. Another 26 episodes aired in North America, Europe, and the Middle East from 2005 to 2006. The American version and broadcasting were done by 4Kids Entertainment, who was also involved in the production of the third season. They edited it and created new music.
Premise
The show follows the Sonic series' main cast, a group of anthropomorphic animals. They are teleported from their home planet to Earth. This happens after they try to save one of their friends from their enemy Doctor Eggman. Sonic the Hedgehog is saved by a human boy named Chris Thorndyke, who helps him find his friends while fighting with Doctor Eggman and his robots. They fight to get control of the powerful Chaos Emeralds. The final story arc saw Sonic and his friends return to their world.
Reception
Sonic X received mixed reviews. Most critics did not like its changes to be more American and some characters. They did like its story and the way it looked. The series was popular in the United States and France. It was less popular in Japan. The merchandise for the show included an edutainment video game for the Leapster, a trading card game, a comic book and many toys.
