Sokhumi or Sukhumi (Georgian: სოხუმი) is the capital and largest city of the breakaway independent state of Abkhazia.

Sokhumi was a multi-ethnic city. The people were Georgians, Abkhazians (Apsuans), Russians, Turks, Armenians and Greeks during Soviet Rule. During the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict, Georgians in Abkhazia were forced to leave. Most Greeks have also left.
