Sex therapy

Sex therapy is the name for a number of therapies for people with sexual dysfunction. The way people have sex and get aroused changes when they get older. Sexual therapy is also used to help people recover from sexual abuse (such as rape or sexual assault), or to address issues related to aging, illness, or disability.

Sex therapy often combines psychotherapy with taking certain drugs. Sex therapists help people overcome their problems, and regain an active and healthy sex life. The transformative approach to sex therapy aims to understand the psychological, biological, pharmacological, relational, and contextual aspects of sexual problems.[1]

Sex therapy has existed in different cultures throughout time, including ancient India, China, Greece, and Rome.[2] It has taken the form of manuals, spells, anaphrodisiacs or aphrodisiacs, and tantric yoga, among others.[3] Much of sex therapy and sexual dysfunction in Western cultures was limited to scientific discussion, especially throughout the 19th century and into the early 20th century.[3]
