School cake

School cake (or school dinner cake) is a British cake. It is cooked in a rectangle-shaped pan. It is vanilla-flavoured. It has vanilla frosting and sprinkles (and sometimes pink custard) on top.[1][2][3] It was a popular dessert in British primary school dinners.[1][2]

Vulture says students got the cake on Fridays if they were good that week.[1] Wales Online says the dish is "synonymous with school dinners" and was served "for generations".[4] Good Housekeeping said it is a "classic".[5] The Manchester Evening News said it is "iconic".[6]

The cake was popular to make during the COVID-19 pandemic.[3][7][5]
