Roland Bejko (born 9 May 1962) is an Albanian politician, lecturer, and political commentator. He is a member of the Democratic Party of Albania and the National Council of the party.
Early life and education
Bejko graduated in 1991 with a degree in Albanian Language and Literature from the University of Gjirokastër. From 2003 to 2005, he completed a master's degree in political philosophy at University Paris 8 in France. In 2007–2008, he became the first Albanian student to attend the École nationale d’administration (ENA) in Strasbourg for public administration.[1]
Career
From 2005 to 2007, Bejko served as Prefect of Berat. He later worked as an adviser at the Ministry of Interior under ministers Bujar Nishani and Flamur Noka.[2]
From 2009 to 2011, he was Director General for Local Government Policy and European Integration in the Ministry of Interior. During this time, he represented Albania in the Union for the Mediterranean and took part as an expert in visa liberalization and EU integration negotiations.
Bejko has represented the Ministry of Interior in meetings of the United Nations and NATO, giving speeches on behalf of the Albanian government. In 2011, he left the Ministry to work as a lecturer at the UET.
He was part of the working group for drafting Law no. 152/2013 “On Civil Servants,” which was a condition for Albania receiving EU candidate status. In February 2013, on the proposal of Prime Minister Sali Berisha, he was appointed the first director of the Public Administration School, a position he held until the government change in 2013.[3]
Besides politics, Bejko has published articles and opinions in Albanian media and has participated in TV debates on political, economic, geopolitical, administrative, fiscal, and EU integration issues. He has taught at several Albanian universities, including Gjirokastër, Elbasan, UET, Luarasi, Albania University, and the University of Tirana.
Political activity
Roland Bejko is one of the founders of the Democratic Party of Albania, participating in the meeting that formed its founding commission. He is a founder of the Gjirokastër branch of the party and of the Youth Forum, where he served as branch leader and member of the leadership. He was several times a member of the National Council of the party, and from 2002 to 2005 he was part of the party leadership and served as vice president during Lulzim Basha's leadership.[4] [5]
Bejko has also been a candidate for deputy in parliamentary elections.
