Redmouth Grouper (Aethaloperca rogaa)

The Redmouth Grouper (Aethaloperca rogaa) is a species of fish. It is also called 'red-flushed rockcod'.

Redmouth grouper is in the grouper family of ray-finned fish.

Redmouth groupers are common in the Indo-Pacific region (the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean), which is a very large area of Earth. However, it is mostly found near the coast, especially in coral reefs. This includes the coasts of Africa, India and Southeast Asia.[1]

Sometimes it is caught by fishermen for food, but it is not a 'high value' fish and not the target of large-scale fishing. Their conservation status is 'least concern' according to the the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.[1]

Redmouth groupers hunt smaller fish in coral reefs and use the coral and caves to hide from larger fish.[2]
