The Red Lake shootings were a series of mass shootings that occurred on March 21, 2005, on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in northern Minnesota, United States. The attacks were carried out by 16-year-old Jeffrey Weise, who killed nine people and wounded several others before dying by suicide.[2]

The violence began at the home of Weise's grandfather, where he fatally shot his grandfather and his grandfather's companion.[3] He then drove to Red Lake Senior High School, where he entered the building and opened fire on students, teachers, and a security guard. After an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement officers, Weise died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.[3]

At the time, the Red Lake shootings were among the deadliest school shootings in United States history. The attack drew widespread national attention and prompted discussions about school security, youth mental health, violence, and conditions affecting Native American communities.
