Dr. R. H. S. Samaratunga (known as 'Dr. Samaratunga') is a Sri Lankan economist and was the former Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Secretary to the Treasury.[1]Currently serving as the Senior Economic Advisor to the President Ranil Wickremasinghe,from July 2022 to present.[2][3][4]
Education
Samaratunga has obtained the B.A. (Honours) Degree in Economics from the University of Peradeniya. He has a doctorate degree in Economics from La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia.[3]
Career
Samaratunga is a former secretary to the Ministry of Finance and the Secretary to the Treasury, Sri Lanka (2015-2019).[5][6]
He also served as ex-officio member of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the Finance Commission of Sri Lanka.[7][8] In February 2008 he was appointed as the Deputy Secretary to the Treasury.[4]
In April 2010 he was appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry of Environment and in 2012 as the Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Industries.[9] In January, 2015 he was appointed as Secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Secretary to the Treasury.[4]
