Harald Paul van Gelder who worked under the name Harkie or Harky (5 April 1947 – 2 December 2024) was a Dutch discjockey.[1]
His career began in 1963 as a lyricist for among others Mies Bouwman. In 1967 he worked as a program maker at the offshore radio station Radio 227, where he introduced genres such as psychedelic music and soul. Radio 227 reached millions of listeners every week. Although the station only existed for a short time, "Harkie" scored very high in various popularity polls at the end of 1967. He was voted for instance number 3 DJ in Belgium and number 5 DJ in the Netherlands by the readers of Muziek Parade [nl].[2] He became later known for the VARA night program Geen tijd, which was broadcast between 1989 and 2014. Van Gelder studied Dutch language and literature at the University of Amsterdam. His biological father came from Mobile, Alabama.[3]
Harald Paul van Gelder died in on 2 December 2024, at the age of 77.[3]
