Paul John Tagliabue (/ˈtæɡliəb/; November 24, 1940 – November 9, 2025) was the Commissioner of the National Football League. He became commissioner in 1989 and retired in 2006. He was replaced by Roger Goodell, who was elected to the position on August 8, 2006. Tagliabue had previously served as a lawyer for the NFL.[1]

Tagliabue served as Chairman of Board of Directors of Georgetown University from 2008 to 2015.

On November 9, 2025, Tagliabue died at his home in Chevy Chase, Maryland of heart failure caused by Parkinson's disease at the age of 84.[2][3][4]
