Otamatone

Many Otamatones in a store

The Otamatone (Japanese: オタマトーン) is an electronic synthesizer, originally developed in Japan. It is shaped like an eighth note and often has a smiley face. It is played by pressing the stem of the instrument, with the position of the hand changing the pitch. Vibrato techniques can be applied in this way. Squeezing the mouth further modifies the sound.

The Otamatone is defined as any of several small- to medium-sized eighth note-shaped electronic musical synthesizers. They were created in Japan by the CUBE toy company and the Maywa Denki design company.[1] The creation of the Otamatone was led by the brothers Masamichi and Nobumichi Tosa.[2] The Otamatone comes in many different colors and varieties, including black, white, blue, and many others.
