Ormoc is a city in the Philippines .[ 1] It is in the Eastern Visayas region in the province of Leyte .[ 2] It is the second largest city in the province. In 2010, 190,000 people lived in Ormoc.[ 3]
In 1991, Ormoc was hit by Tropical Storm Thelma . On 8 November 2013, the city was affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).[ 4] [ 5] [ 6] [ 7]
Ormoc is one of a few cities in the Philippines where people use e-tricycles .[ 8]
The city and nearby areas are sometimes attacked by the New People's Army (NPA).[ 9]
The city got its name from ogmok , an old Visayan term for lowland.
