Nicola Yoon

Nicola Yoon is a writer of Young Adult (YA) books. She wrote Everything, Everything, The Sun Is Also A Star, and Instructions for Dancing. Yoon started a group called Joy Revolution with her husband, David Yoon. This group makes books. Non-white people write these books.[1] She also created a production banner called Yooniverse Media. Yooniverse Media shares happy stories. These stories are about many different people.[2]

Awards

Nicola Yoon won many awards. This includes praise from the Cooperative Children's Book Center Choices list, the Michael L. Printz Award, the Coretta Scott King Book Awards, and the National Book Award for Young People's Literature. She has also been involved with the Walter Dean Myers Award for Outstanding Children's Literature. Yoon has got the Effie Lee Morris Lecture Series honor.[3]

Yoon's Book The Sun Is Also A Star was made into a movie. It is rated PG-13. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 52% critic score and 60% audience score. It was released for streaming on July 30, 2019.[4] Her book, Everything, Everything was also made into a movie. It is rated PG-13. It has a 45% critic score and 61% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It was released for streaming on July 10, 2017.[5]

Personal Values

Nicola Yoon has shown the importance of showing different kinds of people in her books.[6] She especially values equality for black women like herself. Yoon wrote Everything, Everything for her daughter. She wanted her daughter to see a girl like herself in a book.[7]
