James Nicholas "Nick" Ayers (born August 16, 1982) is an American political strategist. He is the Chief of Staff to Vice President Mike Pence since July 2017.

Ayers was the national chairman for Mike Pence's vice-presidential campaign in 2016, and as the former executive director of the Republican Governors Association from 2007 to 2010. He also was principal of C5 Creative Consulting,[1][2]

From November 2016 to January 2017, Ayers was a senior adviser to President-elect Donald Trump's transition team.[3]

Many believed that President Donald Trump would hire Ayers as John F. Kelly's replacement as White House Chief of Staff.[4] On December 9, 2018, Ayers turned down the offer.[5]
