Nantram Negi (also known as Nati Ram Negi) (1756–1781) was a Jaunsari warrior from present-day Uttarakhand. He is remembered for his bravery in battles against the Mughal Empire and Rohilla forces.[1][2][3][4]

Early life

Nantram was born in Maleth (or Berat Khai) village in Jaunsar-Bawar. From a young age, he showed great skill in traditional combat and martial arts.[5][6][2][4]

Military career

He served under Raja Shamsher Prakash of Sirmaur and became a battalion commander.[2][6][5] Nantram led attacks against Mughal forces near the Yamuna River and beheaded a Mughal commander, forcing the enemy to retreat.[6][2][3][4]

In 1781, he attacked Rohilla forces at Rehri Sadar and killed their commander, Ghulam Qadir Khan. He was martyred in that battle.[2][4]

Legacy

Nantram is honored in Jaunsari folk culture. He is remembered in songs (Harul), dances (Harul Rasa), and rituals in local temples. He is widely known as Notiya Negi[4]

His story is told in songs like Negi Nati Ram Harul and in regional programs and performances.[3][7][4]
