Momi (caste)

Momi (also relabelled as Mehmi or Mahmi) is an ethnocentric term or affluent namesake used for members of the "lowborn" stewarding or tillage (Mali) community, which overlapped among the progenitorial members of Saini and Muslim Kamboj sub-linearity. Laterally, some of their members took up the extricated profession of menial gardener and became consanguineous forefathers of Arain under caste-based hierarchical segmentation.[1][source?]

Momi, Handa are the important clans of the Kamboh which they shared with the Arains. Some of the Arain and Saini clan names are identical, and those not always merely names of dominant tribes. Saini are a Hindu caste, spread all over In-dia. On these two accounts, some researchers connect the Arians with the Sainis.
