Mohammad Javad Zarif (Persian: محمدجواد ظریف, romanized: Mohammad-Javād Zarīf; Persian pronunciation: [mohæmːædd͡ʒæˌvɒːde zæˌɾiːf]; born c. 7 January 1960) is an Iranian politician.[4] He was the foreign minister of Iran from 2013 to 2021. He helped end the economic sanctions against Iran from many countries on 16 January 2016.[5]
On 25 February 2019, Zarif resigned from his post as foreign minister.[6] His resignation was rejected by President Hassan Rouhani.
Mohammad Yavad Zarif served as vice president of the Islamic Republic of Iran between August 1, 2024 and August 11, 2024 before resigning.[7]
