Michelle O'Neill (née Doris; born 10 January 1977) is an Irish politician. O'Neill is the First Minister of Northern Ireland since 2024. She was the deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland from 2020 until 2022.[1] She has served as vice president of Sinn Féin since 2018 and has been the member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Mid Ulster since 2007.
O'Neill was born in Fermoy, County Cork, in the Republic of Ireland. Her family are Irish republicans from Clonoe, County Tyrone. She has two children with Paddy O'Neill. The couple separated in 2014.
Sinn Féin became the largest party after the 2022 assembly election, putting O'Neill in line for the position of First Minister of Northern Ireland.[2][3]
