Matt Luff (born May 5, 1997) is a Canadian professional ice hockey winger. He currently plays for the Hamilton Hammers of the American Hockey League (AHL) and is a prospect with the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for the Los Angeles Kings, Nashville Predators, Detroit Red Wings, and St. Louis Blues.
Career
Before playing in the NHL, Luff played one season with the Belleville Bulls and two seasons with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
He was not drafted by an NHL team. On September 23, 2016, Luff signed a three-year entry-level contract to join the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL).[1] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Ontario Reign.
On November 3, 2018, the Kings called him up and Luff made his NHL debut in a 4–1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets.[2] On November 19, Luff scored his first NHL goal against Jake Allen in a 2–0 win against the St. Louis Blues.[3]
On July 28, 2021, Luff signed a one-year contract to join the Nashville Predators.[4] He scored 3 goals and recorded 3 assists for 6 points in 23 regular season games for the Predators.
On July 28, 2021, Luff signed a one-year contract to join the Detroit Red Wings.[5] On July 1, 2023, Luff signed a one-year contract to stay with the Red Wings.[6] He scored 2 goals and recorded 2 assists for 4 points in 19 regular season games for the Red Wings.
On July 1, 2025, Luff signed a one-year contract to join the St. Louis Blues.[7] He played 5 regular season games with the Blues and scored 1 goal. He mainly spent his time with their AHL-affiliate Springfield Thunderbirds.
On February 24, 2026, the Blues traded Luff to the New York Islanders in exchange for Julien Gauthier.[8]
