Lucien Szpiro (23 December 1941 – 18 April 2020)[1] was a French mathematician. He was known for his work in number theory, arithmetic algebraic geometry, and commutative algebra. He was a Distinguished Professor at the CUNY Graduate Center. He helped create Szpiro's conjecture.
In 2014, he was made a member of the Academia Europaea.
Szpiro died on 18 April 2020 from heart failure in Paris, aged 78.[1]
