Louis Debackere (1 September 1937 – November 2024) was a Belgian football player from Bruges, playing as a midfielder. He played eight seasons with Club Brugge K.V. from 1957 to 1965.[2]

Sports career
He started playing football with Royal Antwerp F.C..[3] Aftwerwards in 1957, Debackere moved to Club Brugge K.V.. With Club Brugge he played as a midfielder eight season in the main team between 1957 and 1965.[4]
Debackere was on the team when it promoted from the Belgian Second Division to the Belgian First Division A, the top division in Belgium, in 1959. After that, he played all his following years at the highest level in Belgium. He played a total of 167 matches with Club Brugge and scored seven goals, including 151 competition matches and four Belgian Cup matches.[5]
Debackere was also a member of the Belgium national under-21 football team and played in March and April 1960 against Scotland and East Germany. Later the year in October and November he played with the Belgium national aspirants football team in Switzerland and Hungary.[6][7]
Personal life
Debackere was born on 1 September 1937.[3][8] After his playing career he was owner of furniture store “Meubels en Keukens Debackere” in Assebroek for decades.[4][9] When he was 82 year old, he was reported missing after he left the AZ Sint-Lucas [nl] hospital in Brugge in January 2020.[1] He was found in good health a day later.[10]
Debackere died in November 2024, at the age of 87 years old.[5][4]
