"Lonely Day" is the second single off of American rock band System of a Down's fifth studio album Hypnotize. The song was released on April 17, 2006.
The song was able to make it to #10 on the Alternative Airplay, #10 on the Mainstream Rock, and #23 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles charts.[1][2][3] The song was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[4] The song was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance at the 49th Grammy Awards but lost to Wolfmother's "Woman".[5]
Guitarist Daron Malakian wrote the song. The song is about a day in his life that he wants to forget.
A music video for the song was released. In the video, the band is relaxing on their tour bus while Malakian sings. The World is in slow motion. While people go about their day, different objects are on fire. The band's tour bus leaves the burning city.
The song appears in the 2007 movie Disturbia and on an episode of and on the soundtrack to the 2023 Netflix comedy drama series Beef.[6][7]
