Its name, used since the thirteenth century in place of its more ancient name Segualeriae (Ségualières), refers to the silver mines in the area between the tenth and fifteenth centuries.
Geography
The commune of Largentière is in the southern part of the Ardèche department, in the narrow valley of the Ligneriver, a short right tributary of the Ardèche river.
The commune has an area of 7.2 km2 (2.8 sq mi),[1] and its average altitude is 284 m (932 ft); at the city hall, the altitude is 240 m (790 ft).[2]
