Kweisi Mfume ( kwy-EE-see uum-FOO-may; born Frizzell Gerald Gray; October 24, 1948) is an American politician. He has been the U.S. Representative for Maryland's 7th congressional district from 1987 to 1996 and was elected again in May 2020.
He is also the former president and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
In 2006, he ran for the U.S. Senate seat, but lost the Democratic nomination to Ben Cardin.
In 2020, Mfume was elected to again fill his former House seat, after the death of Elijah Cummings.[1]
