Katie Ledecky at the 2016 Olympic Games
Kathleen Genevieve Ledecky (born March 17, 1997)[ 1] is an American competition swimmer . At the 2012 Olympics in London , she won the gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle.[ 2] At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro , she won four gold medals.
At the world championships in 2013 in Barcelona , Spain , and the 2015 world championships in Kazan , Russia, she won 9 gold medals in total.[ 3] She has broken a world record 13 times, in the 400-meter, 800-meter, and 1500-meter freestyle.[ 4]
