János Kornai (21 January 1928 – 18 October 2021) was a Hungarian economist.[2] He was known for criticism of command economies of Eastern European communist states. He was emeritus professor at both Harvard University and Corvinus University of Budapest.
In 1982, he became a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 1989, he was elected a member of the Academia Europaea.[3]
Kornai died on 18 October 2021, at the age of 93.[4]
