Jonathan Marchessault (né Audy-Marchessault; born December 27, 1990) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward. He currently plays for the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, and Vegas Golden Knights.

Marchessault is a one-time Stanley Cup champion, winning with the Golden Knights in 2023 and a one-time Conn Smythe Trophy winner in 2023. He is also a one-time All-Star, being named one in 2022.

Career

Before playing in the NHL, Marchessault played four seasons with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He had a successful time with the Remparts, being named to the QMJHL First All-Star Team in 2011.[1]

He was not drafted by an NHL team. On July 23, 2015, Marchessault signed a three-year, $2.775 million entry-level contract to join the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL).[2] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliates Connecticut Whale and Springfield Falcons.

On December 11, the Jackets called him up and Marchessault made his NHL debut in a 4–1 loss against the St. Louis Blues.[3] On March 5, 2014, the Jackets traded Marchessault along with Dalton Smith to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Matt Taormina and Dana Tyrell.[4] On April 11, 2015, Marchessault scored his first NHL goal against Tuukka Rask in a 3–2 win against the Boston Bruins.[5] On June 28, Marchessault signed a one-year, $600,000 contract to stay with the Lightning.[6]

On July 1, 2016, Marchessault signed a two-year, $1.5 million contract to join the Florida Panthers.[7] He scored 30 goals and recorded 21 assists for 51 points in 75 regular season games for the Panthers. On March 25, 2017, Marchessault recorded his first NHL hat-trick in a 7–0 win against the Chicago Blackhawks.[8]

On June 21, 2017, the Panthers left Marchessault unprotected and he was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL expansion draft.[9] On January 3, 2018, Marchessault signed a six-year, $30 million contract to stay with the Knights.[10]

He helped the Knights when they went on a run in the playoffs. They defeated the Winnipeg Jets, Edmonton Oilers, and Dallas Stars. They went on to defeat the Florida Panthers four games to one in the Final to win the first Stanley Cup in Hurricanes franchise history.[11] He also won the Conn Smythe Trophy for being the most valuable player in the playoffs and became the first undrafte player since Wayne Gretzky in 1988 to win the award..[12]

On July 1, 2024, Marchessault signed a five-year, $27.5 million contract to join the Nashville Predators.[13]
