Jimmy LaFave (July 12, 1955 – May 21, 2017) was an American singer-songwriter and folk musician. He was born in Willis Point, Texas. After moving to Stillwater, Oklahoma, LaFave created a musical style called Red Dirt music. LaFave was an Advisory Board member and regular performer at the annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival.
LaFave has recorded 15 albums and his 2007 release, Cimarron Manifesto, reached the No. 1 mark on the Americana Music Association album chart. In 2012, LaFave released the studio album Depending On The Distance.[1]
LaFave died on May 21, 2017 in Austin, Texas from tissue cancer at the age of 61.[2]
