Jadhav
Jadhav is a regional surname found in Maharashtra and neighbouring areas. Some scholars trace the term to Yadava through linguistic evolution (Yadava → Jadava → Jadhav). According to Population Geography: A Journal of the Association of Population Geographers of India (Vol. 10, 1988), “Ahirs are also known as Yadavs and even Jadhavs in Northern India and Maharashtra respectively,” suggesting that the Jadhavs were originally associated with the wider Ahir–Yadava pastoral-warrior groups rather than the later Maratha identity. The later identification of Jadhavs as a Maratha clan appears to reflect subsequent social assimilation and regional reinterpretation, rather than direct descent from the Seuna Yadavas of Devagiri.[1]
