Interparfums is a French company listed on Euronext Paris that manufactures and distributes prestigious perfumes.

History

Solférino Paris shop

The company was founded in 1982 by Philippe Bénacin and Jean Madar. It initially developed in the mass perfume market, designing and distributing affordable eau de toilettes, before shifting its focus to niche perfumery in the early 1990s.[1]

In 1993, the signing of a perfume licensing agreement with the English brand Burberry was the first step in this strategy aimed at building a portfolio of international brands such as Karl Lagerfeld, prêt-à-porter brands (Lanvin), fine jewelry (Van Cleef & Arpels, Boucheron), and accessories (ST Dupont, Montblanc, Jimmy Choo, Repetto for Fall 2013), always in the world of perfumes and cosmetics.[2]

Since April 2013,[3] following discussions between the British company and Interparfums, the Burberry brand,[4] which represented half of Interparfums' revenue, has been transferred to BPI (Beauté Prestige International), a subsidiary of Shiseido.[5]

In March 2015, Interparfums acquired Rochas, a subsidiary of Procter & Gamble specializing in perfumes and fashion, for $108 million.[6]

In April 2015, Interparfums signed a licensing agreement with the Coach brand.[7]

In 2016, following the acquisition of Balmain by the investment company Mayhoola, Interparfums decided to terminate the licensing agreement.

On June 7, 2019, Kate Spade New York and Interparfums announced that they had signed an exclusive worldwide licensing agreement for Kate Spade perfumes for a period of 11 years.[8]

On June 11, 2020, the Moncler brand and Interparfums announced the signing of a perfume licensing agreement, valid until December 31, 2026, with a possible five-year extension.[9]

On July 1, 2020, Interparfums acquired 25% of the "origines-parfums.fr" website, which will become MyOrigines to accelerate its international development.

In January 2021, the Interparfums group, previously located at 4 Rond-point des Champs-Élysées-Marcel-Dassault in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, purchased the building at 10 rue de Solférino (Paris), the former historic headquarters of the Socialist Party in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, from APSYS and established its headquarters there.[10][11]

For 2021 as a whole, Interparfums reported a net profit 40% higher than in 2019, the last year before the pandemic, now at €71.1 million. The following year, the Richemont Group, which licenses several brands to Interparfums, announced its intention to take over the beauty business, causing the manufacturer's share price to plummet.[12]

In December 2022, Interparfums announced a 15-year global licensing agreement with the Lacoste brand, which will take effect on January 1, 2024.[13]

The company's revenue is expected to increase in 2023 and 2024, reaching €880 million by the end of 2024.[14]

In 2025, Interparfums will acquire all intellectual property rights related to Maison Goutal from Amore Pacific.[15] The same year the group launched the brand « Solférino Paris », its first high-end perfumery brand.[16]
