Hydrochoerinae is a subfamily of rodents. It contains the capybaras and the Rock cavies. It contains 4 living species and 18 extinct species. Most species are shaped like a capybara with a squirrel like face and are larger then a foot long. All species are vegetarian, having diets of seaplants or their own manure. Most species live in South America. Capybaras could weigh up to 170 pounds while other species could weigh up to a pound. They are normally kind and are no threat to humans or other animals. They are normally eaten by caimans and large jaguars. Most species live on land and on water. Most species are also incredible swimmers.
