Hussain Muhammad Ershad (Bengali : হুসেইন মুহাম্মদ এরশাদ Hussein Muhammad Ershad , 1 February 1930 – 14 July 2019) was a Bangladeshi politician. He served as the 10th President of Bangladesh from 1983 to 1990. He was the founder of the Jatiyo Party , currently the second-largest party in the Jatiyo Sangshad .
Ershad was twice honoured as a United Nations Laureate , for his works on population and environmental issues.[ 2] [ 3]
Ershad died on 14 July 2019 at a military hospital in Dhaka from myelodysplastic syndrome , aged 89.[ 4] [ 5]
