Hemiphractus elioti is a frog. It lives in Panama.[2][3][1]

Home

This frog lives in forests that were never cut down. People see the frog on the ground or sitting on plants. Scientists have seen the frog between 600 and 1,600 m (2,000 and 5,200 ft) above sea level.[2][1]

Scientists have seen the frog in protected places: Long ago in Parque Internacional La Amistad, Reserva Forestal Fortuna, and El Copé and less long ago in Area de Uso Múltiple Donoso.[1]

Young

The female frog carries her young on her back. The eggs hatch into small froglets, not swimming tadpoles.[1]

Danger

Scientists from the IUCN say the frogs are in very big danger of dying out. People cut down too many trees and change the places where the frogs live to get wood to use, make farms, make places to raise cows, and dig in the ground for copper.[1]

Scientists keep some of these frogs with them at El Valle Amphibian Conservation Center. The frogs have young and the scientists put the young back in the wild.[1]
